On the monday after I arrived in L.A., my sister and I set out to drive to the east coast.

Goodbye L.A....

...hello desert!

We weren't headed there. But it's the closest i've ever been.

We were headed for the Grand Canyon. Neither of us had ever seen it before. We were pretty excited.

This is right outside of a town called Needles, which is a town that Edward Abbey references a lot in his writing.

I wish I could have traveled the west like he did, in a train, with the door open, just watching it all go by.

Guess it would've been hot, but it sure would've been something to see. Nice and slow. He said that was the best way to experience the nature around you.

As it was, we were in air conditioning most of the time.

We were there, once.

I got lost in the desert for a minute.

But we managed to get back on the road, heading towards our destination.
